Silicon Power is a relatively new name in the field of conservation. This spring, Silicon Power launched two new SSD friendly, the Velox V55 and S55 Slim budget. Designed for cost-conscious consumers looking to upgrade their system to a SSD, V55 and S55 are powered by PS3108-S8 processor of Phison has a 6 GB/s SATA interface, TRIM support, and a 512 MB cache. Both units are also equipped with up to 480 GB MLC NAND flash memory to carry up to 556 MB/s reading and 500 MB/s write speed. The only real difference between the two units is the form factor. Where the 9 mm thick and V55 can be installed on a desktop or notebook PC, 7 mm thick standard S55 is perfect for ultrabooks or ultra-thin notebook.

For this review, Silicon Power has sent us the 240GB version of S55 Slim. This SSD is capable of delivering up to 556 in MB/s sequential read and 480 MB/s sequential write speed as well as a maximum of 80,000 4 k random write IOPS.
