This year Seagate has introduced its first solid state disk, SSD 600 clients. Available in z-heights, 5 mm and 7 mm, 600 SSD is the final update for laptop road warriors, experienced users, managers and players. No mechanical or moving parts, this unit is more rugged and shock-resistant than standard hard drives. The SSD also combines 600 links to multimedia devices (LAMD) LM87800 controller with 19nm turn Toshiba flash MLC NAND to provide speed, application load times and responsiveness of the system improved faster startup.
The SSD 600 is available in capacities of 120 GB, 240 and 480 GB. For this review, Seagate has sent us the disk 240GB version that is capable of delivering up to 550 MB/s sequential read and 450 MB/s sequential write speeds as well as up to 80,000 and 70,000 random random write IOPS.
